The Marais district is lined with many selective boutiques and is a trendsetter in Paris, the fashion capital. I was asked to photograph a fashion event called UNIQLO & LEMAIRE that took place there in summer 2015, so I’m going to write an article about it.
Launch of the UNIQLO & LEMAIRE 2015 collection
UNIQLO & LEMAIRE is a collaborative collection between UNIQLO and LEMAIRE, launched in the Marais district of Paris in summer 2015. The outfits are casually styled, easy to wear on a daily basis, but the use of materials that are pleasant to the touch and give an impression of luxury is in line with what we’ve come to expect from LEMAIRE. The venue, pure white and minimalist, also gives the impression of the UNIQLO & LEMAIRE concept.
In this calm atmosphere, the photographer communicates directly with the models.
The venue had only a small number of visitors, so there was no fuss and the fashion event took place in a relaxed atmosphere. This meant we were able to communicate directly with the models as we shot, giving us the feel of a luxury portrait session. At events like the Paris Collection, it’s common to photograph fast-walking models from a distance with a telephoto lens, but it’s quite rare and interesting to be able to express your posing wishes at events like this. If you point the camera at them, they are indeed professional models, so the way they make facial expressions and gestures is natural and easy to photograph.
In this calm atmosphere, I wanted to take my time and enjoy shooting with a single focal length lens. So I used the Sigma 35 mm 1.4 Art single-focal lens, which is renowned for its high descriptive performance. The soft light coming through the polished glass canopy is well reflected by the pure white floor and walls, creating a very comfortable environment for photography.
The models in the men’s collection are also very handsome. This photo was taken from a distance with a telephoto lens.
Today I’ve written about “shooting fashion events in the Marais in Paris”.
We can also shoot advertising for fashion events and other events in the Paris suburbs.
