To promote Japanese clothing in France and other European countries, we organized kimono photoshoots at the Restaurant de l’Opéra, the Galerie Vivienne, and the Café de Flore in Paris.
Kimono photoshoot at the Restaurant L’Opéra
This restaurant has a fairly modern interior and was designed by French architect Odile Decq. The contemporary and innovative design of the space makes extensive use of curves and a unique color palette dominated by white and red, but it also somehow matches the classic atmosphere of the Opéra Garnier, making it an attractive restaurant. Moreover, coincidentally, the colors used match the patterns of traditional Japanese clothing, creating a beautiful balance in the kimono portrait photography.
This photo was taken with a Sigma 35mm Art prime lens from the second floor, with the model standing in the dining room on the first floor of the restaurant. The overall balance is simply perfect, and it’s truly a stunning photo!
Photographing Anne Claire, who works worldwide as a model
The model this time was Anne Claire, with her charming blue eyes. She is a popular French model who works all over the world, mainly in Paris. In the first photo, she is wearing a plain white wedding kimono, and in the second and third photos, she is wearing a kimono with a traditional pattern.
The Galerie Vivienne is the most elegant passageway in Paris.
This is the Galerie Vivienne, located just a stone’s throw from the Palais Royal. The light streaming through the glass windows and the mosaic patterns on the floor tiles, said to have been designed by Facchina, are truly magnificent, making this the most elegant passageway in Paris. We asked Alexandra, who has big, pretty eyes, to be the model, and she wore a lovely purple kimono. This photo was also taken with a Sigma 35mm Art Prime lens, which allowed me to get quite close to the model, making communication with her very easy.
This Parisian model is super cute with her rope-braided hair and yukata!
Another model, Alexandra, wore a blue yukata this time. The location we chose for the shoot was the long-established Café de Flore in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. This café is always decorated with beautiful flowers and has a particularly chic atmosphere that stands out among the high-end boutiques in the area. Her rope-braided hair and yukata look are perfect for a Parisian model and are so cute!
Of course, this half-Japanese, half-French model looks fabulous in a yukata!
We asked a half-Japanese, half-French model to wear a different yukata, and she was just as adorable as the Parisian model. She has a very Japanese look, so it doesn’t look out of place at all, but she also has beautiful French features, so it feels like she has the best of both worlds!
This time, I shot using only one prime lens, the Sigma 35mm Art. The resolution and bokeh are excellent, and with a 35mm wide-angle focal length, it’s an ideal lens for taking portraits with the background in the background. We didn’t use any lighting equipment, just natural light and the store lights, but the soft lighting produced a beautiful finish.
